Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

10429045Title: Shatter Me
Author: Tahereh Mafi
Series: Shatter Me #1
Publisher: Harper
Release Date: November 15, 2011

Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days.
The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.
The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war-and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.
Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.
I read Shatter Me a few years ago when I first started my blog, but after finally buying the rest of the series, I was due for a reread.

what i liked
  • Juliette's abilities. I just find them so interesting, honestly. I wouldn't call them powers, just because they're not necessarily good, but still.
  • Mafi's writing style. She writes so beautifully, and really brings her characters to life, especially Juliette.
  • Warner is such an awesome villain. I found myself liking him at times. Why is he such a likeable villain?

what i disliked
  • Adam. I found him to be rather annoying the whole time. It's weird, because I remember when I read this the first time I absolutely loved Adam. I really don't ship him with Juliette at all.

I'm excited to continue on with the series!!

  4. I read this for the first time recently. I didn’t like the romance between Juliette and Adam. I felt it too needy and obsessive. I did like the read though.
