Imagination takes on new meaning for a uniquely talented teen in this debut novel that is a breathtaking blend of contemporary, fantasy, and romance.
Sometimes Jonathan Aubrey wishes he could just disappear. And as luck-or fate-would have it, he can. Ever since coming out of a coma as a kid, he has been able to create alternate worlds. Worlds where he is a superhero, or a ladies' man, or simply a better version of himself. That's the world he's been escaping to most since sophomore year, a world where he has everything he doesn't have in real life: friends, a place of honor on the track team, passing grades, and most importantly, Kylie Simms as his girlfriend.
But when Jonathan confuses his worlds senior year and tries to kiss the real Kylie Simms, everything unravels. The real Kylie actually notices Jonathan... and begins obsessing over him. The fantasy version of Kylie struggles to love Jonathan as she was created to do, and the consequences are disastrous. As his worlds collide, Jonathan must confront the truth of his power and figure out where he actually belongs-before he loses both Kylies forever.

In A World Just Right was an extremely unique take on parallel worlds. It was honestly unlike anything that I had ever read before when it comes to the wonderful world of parallel books. The story follows a guy named Jonathan. When he was eight, his entire family was in a plane crash that landed in the Boston Harbor. Only he and two older people survived. His parents and his younger sister all drowned in the Harbor, when all they were trying to do was go to Disney. Now, he possesses the power to make his own parallel worlds. When he's upset, he can just go to a new world that he created where everything is better. His favorite world is one that he created where Kylie Simms (the girl he's had a crush on forever) is his girlfriend. So of course, that's the one that he escapes to most often. However, one day he accidentally tries to kiss the real Kylie Simms and then everything starts to change.

Jonathan was a very unique character. I loved that he possessed the ability to create his own worlds. That's a concept that I had never heard before. I also really liked Kylie, though I felt bad that she almost seemed to start to like him at times because she liked him in a parallel universe!

Of course, this book had a huge plot twist at the end. I was literally mind-blown, though I had suspected the plot twist a bit early on. However, the story convinced me otherwise and made me believe that what I thought to be true wasn't, and then all of a sudden it actually was! I was reading and then all the sudden I was like:

I have to say, that plot twist at the end actually made me love the story even more.

I know for sure that this is one that I'm going to recommend to people. It's a wonderful cross between Dr. Who and We Were Liars.

  2. Great review! The whole premise of this book sounds really interesting and I'm curious about this big plot twist at the end. I love both Doctor Who and We Were Liars so I think that I will give this book a try.

  5. Seeing as I love We Were Liars AND Doctor Who knowing this is a cross between the two makes me very happy. I have this one but basically have yet to dive into it, which is shame on my part from the sound of things. It actually makes me think of Dissonance by Erika O'Rourke.

  7. I really haven't seen this book around very much, but I had been wondering what it was about! And I have to say that of all the parallel world novels that I've read, none has ever featured a character that can CREATE their own parallel worlds. That is actually all kinds of awesome.

And I LOVE plot twists! And I also love it when you think you've guessed it but the book convinces you that you're wrong and then it turns out you were right all along.

Also: Doctor Who crossed with We Were Liars? BRILLIANT!
