Why blog about books?

This week on Downright Discussions I decided to talk about book blogging. I mean, it seems like a pretty appropriate topic and all..

Book blogging is a great way to share the love of books. It's also a great way for readers to find and recommend books to one another.

I actually joined book blogging after my obsession with The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. As soon as  I read the book, I went online and found out that there was an entire genre dedicated to books like The Hunger Games. This genre was called dystopian. Since then, I've been obsessed with futuristic books. Will this ever get old for me? I really hope not, because I love reading books about what could possibly come in the future, though I highly doubt that any of the stuff I read about could ever happen. But hey, you never know. The book world might be pretty prepared for any type of apocalypse!

Blogging about books is also a great way to meet new readers that love the same kind of books that you do. It's always a great feeling to talk about favorite books with other people that actually understand what you're talking about. That's why I love book blogging. It's also fun to meet authors and actually work with publishing houses. It's really cool to think of some of the things that book bloggers can do.

What's your favorite thing about book blogging? Why do you blog about books?

  1. Sharing my love for a book and hoping others share that love, to that someone sees that review and discovers a book they want to read.

  2. I like to connect with readers who like the same books i do, and i like to see who are the obviously crazy bloggers who dare to like books i don't like :-)

  3. Thanks for stopping in the other day and leaving a comment. I started blogging about books because of a YA Lit. class I was taking in college. Once I found some book blogs I was hooked and wanted to start my own. I love being able to fan girl with people who love to read just as much as I do. Plus, it keeps me updated with the latest and greatest so I can make recommendations for my students.

  4. It's so strange because I had been reading blogs for a while but never thought that there was such a thing as book blogging. Until I met my friend and now co-blogger who already had a blog. I love sharing my love of books with other people. I never thought I would be a book blogger but I really enjoy it (most of the time - hahaha).

  5. I actually started book blogging for myself, as a way to keep track of what I was reading and to help me remember the plots of books I was flying through. I love connecting with other bloggers and finding out what they think of titles that I haven't gotten to yet, it helps me be a better bookseller!

  6. It has meant so much to me to get to meet other people who love YA and be able to talk with them. I am lucky to have readers in my real life but they don't read YA and it can be lonely :(
