Waiting on The Living by Matt de la Pena!

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine. This meme spotlights upcoming releases that bloggers are eagerly waiting for.

Shy took the summer job to make some money. In a few months on a luxury cruise liner, he'll rake in the tips and be able to help his mom and sister out with the bills. And how bad can it be? Bikinis, free food, maybe even a girl or two—every cruise has different passengers, after all.
But everything changes when the Big One hits. Shy's only weeks out at sea when an earthquake more massive than ever before recorded hits California, and his life is forever changed.
The earthquake is only the first disaster. Suddenly it's a fight to survive for those left living.

The Living will be released on November 12, 2013 by Delacorte Books for Young Readers!

  7. As someone who lives in California (but was not born there), I am terrified of going through a BIG earthquake. I've felt some little ones but a big one like this would terrify me.

  11. This looks incredible! I was in California when the Northridge earthquake hit in 1994, and that was scary enough - it looks like de la Pena is going really big with this one.

Thanks for sharing this pick and for stopping by my WoW today. :)

  12. That sounds exciting! Love books about disasters. Ever since I went on a cruise I have been wanting to work on one. The workers say it is fun and they make good money. Thanks for stopping by!

  15. Oooh, sounds like a disaster movie. It could be really exciting though I might personally get stuck on a character named Shy. Really? Shy?

  17. Woah, this is an idea for a postapocalyptic book that I've not heard of before! I'm intrigued by both the cruise ship setting and the monster wave - thanks for bringing it to my attention, and for stopping by!
